CONDOLENCE MESSAGE: SANDRA NYAIRA

CONDOLENCE MESSAGE: SANDRA NYAIRA

The Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC), Prof. Ruby Magosvongwe, Commissioners and Staff have learnt with a great shock and disbelief on the death of a veteran journalist, Sandra Nyaira who died on the 13th of July 2021 of Covid19 related complications. She was 46.

Sandra will be remembered as one of the few outstanding female journalists who made her mark in the field of investigative journalism.

She really inspired many young female journalists who find themselves in male dominated newsrooms.  Her rise to become Political News Editor with the Daily News before leaving the newsroom is clear testimony of her great work.

Female journalists face many challenges in occupying higher positions in the newsrooms, a feat Sandra overcame.  The Commission calls upon female journalists to emulate the zeal and dedication of Sandra and make their mark in the newsrooms

Sandra rose to fame when she became the first woman to take a leadership role in the Newsroom at a tender age of 26 at the Daily News.

Sandra was among the many veteran journalists who served in the Media fraternity with great passion. Sandra’s voice of reason will be sadly missed by the global media journalists. She will be remembered for her bravery, wit and empowerment strategies in the field of journalism.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
