24 Dec NATIONAL UNITY DAY CONGRATULATORY STATEMENT
The Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) Professor Ruby Magosvongwe, Commissioners and entire Staff join His Excellency, President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa and the entire nation, in commemorating the 33rd anniversary of the National Unity Day.
The Unity Accord signed in 1987, took our country on a trajectory of peace and development. We cherish the peace and tranquillity that is prevailing in our nation. We thank our leaders for this historic day and the peace and unity that we continue to enjoy today. Without this peace and unity, it is not possible to achieve national development.
The media plays an important role in promoting national unity. The ZMC continues to play its oversight role, to ensure that highest standards of journalistic professionalism are maintained. We, therefore, challenge the media to play a positive role in promoting peace and unity to achieve national development. The National Development Strategy (NDS1) and Vision 2030 can only be achieved in an environment of peace and national unity. No country can achieve national development and economic growth if its people are divided.
