30 Oct Appointment of Vice Chairperson
The Zimbabwe Media Commission Board of Commissioners inaugurated on the 15th of October 2020 by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe held its inaugural board meeting at the Commission offices on 29 October 2020 at the Media Centre, Rainbow Towers Grounds in Harare.
The meeting took the opportunity to elect and appoint My Jasper Maposa as the Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners. Professor Ruby Magosvongwe is the Chairperson of the Commission and her deputy has to be of different gender in compliance with the provisions of the Constitution.
The inaugural meeting was to brief the Commissioners on the operations of the Commission by the Secretariat which is headed by Dr Tafataona Mahoso as the Chief Executive Officer. Dr Mahoso gave a detailed brief on the operations of the Commission for the last five years in the absence of a Board of Commissioners.
The last board’s tenure had ended in February 2015 and the ZMC Secretariat had to operate for the five years within the limits of policies and resolutions put in place before February 2015.
In terms of the principles of good corporate governance, the long absence of the board had posed some challenges for the ZMC which the latest developments have now resolved.
